Politics

Politics
William Butler Yeats

HOW can I, that girl standing there,
My attention fix
On Roman or on Russian
Or on Spanish politics?
Yet here's a travelled man that knows
What he talks about,
And there's a politician
That has read and thought,
And maybe what they say is true
Of war and war's alarms,
But O that I were young again
And held her in my arms!

After reading this one is forced to think about making decisions. You must be in either one place or the other when facing life decisions like this. The person in this poem has to choose between the love he has for a women versus his duty towards the country. In general, I picked this poem because it made me think about what all troops sacrifice when they fight for their country. Personally I would pick love but this person picked war and all he can think of is that woman and holding her. I liked this one because I felt like I was in the mind of a troop in the sense that while in war they think about coming to that special someone.
